Boston QWAFAFEW Meeting: 20 Aug 2019

 Quants’ Quandary: Crossing The Chasm

 A QWAFAFEW discussion led by:

Rick Roche, CAIA. Little Harbor Advisors, LLC.

Rick Roche, CAIA, will present core concepts from his paper which was recently accepted for publication in the Journal of Investment Consulting. Roche upends widely-held erroneous assumptions and media assertions of widespread quant investing. Contrary to mainstream media claims of widespread adoption of quant fund investing, Roche uses industry research (Morgan Stanley & McKinsey) to document that a surprisingly small sum of individual and institutional dollars has been allocated to quant strategists. Quants have not “taken over investment management”!

Mr. Roche makes a novel contribution to quantitative literature by using Everett Rogers’s Diffusion Of Innovations and Dr. Geoffrey Moore’s Crossing The Chasm to locate quant investment’s uptake among institutional and retail investors. He describes innovation resistance and reluctance to adopt quantitative investing and opines on why more investors and advisors haven’t made quant investment allocations.

This Program will be highly-interactive with three distinct modules:
An audience needs analysis to tailor comments and solutions appropriate to those in attendance.
Overview of his Quants’ Quandary findings.
Specific solutions to assist Quant Sponsors in identifying avenues to Cross The Chasms (plural) and for advisors and consultants to spread the “Gospel of Quant”
